History and Legal Evolution

The Universal Yoga Sports Federation (UYSF) was originally established in December 2021 as a non-profit Trust Universal Yoga Alliance & Yoga Sports Federation , dedicated to promoting Yogasana as a global sport and supporting athletes, coaches, and federations worldwide.

In September 2025, UYSF was re-registered as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013, formalizing its legal framework as a non-profit organization with corporate governance, statutory compliance, and the ability to operate internationally.

This transition allows UYSF to:

  • Operate in compliance with Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.

  • Conduct global events, educational programs, and competitions under a recognized legal structure.

  • Maintain transparency in finances, audits, and governance.

  • Continue its mission of promoting Yogasana as a sport while supporting research, education, and international collaborations.

This transition allows UYSF to:

  • Promotion of Yoga as a Sport: Standardizing Yogasana competitions and global recognition.

  • Global Education and Training: Certification, workshops, and educational programs for athletes, coaches, and judges.

  • International Events: Organization of the World Yoga Cup, Asia Pacific Yogasana Championships, and Global Yoga Awards.

  • Cultural Exchange and Unity: Encouraging international collaboration, peace, and harmony through yoga.

  • Non-Profit Operation: All funds are utilized solely for organizational objectives, education, and athlete development.

  • Governance: Managed by a Board of Directors, including the World President, Vice Presidents, Secretary General, and other key members.

  • Ethics and Compliance: Strict adherence to codes of ethics, safety standards, and fair play in all activities.

  • Audit and Transparency: Annual audits, statutory filings, and compliance as per Section 8 company norms.
